Artist Bio

Kara Deacon was born and raised in Mokena, Illinois, and moved at the beginning of her college carrier. She is an animator/illustrator who now resides in Queen Creek, Arizona. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University in Art/Animation. Kara has taken an interest in art at a very young age and has self-taught herself to draw and has since developed her skills since entering University. She specializes in character art and is familiar with most Adobe Programs. Adobe Illustrator is her favorite program to create art as it allows her to create a wide variety of pieces with its software.
A huge influence in Kara's life is anime. Some of her favorite shows would have to be Haikyū! and One Piece due to the messages the shows give to their audiences. Haikyū! has one that says "飛べ" meaning "Fly High". This is to always keep going, no matter how much people want to bring you down. One Piece is that it doesn’t matter what background you come from or what place you come from; anyone can aspire to become what they want if they try hard enough. Also that it doesn’t matter where you are from or what race you are. There are good people and bad people all over the world (in one piece and In reality). You just have to choose who you want to be part of your group.
Artist Statement
As a digital artist who specializes in animation and character art, I often use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Procreate. As mentioned, Illustrator is my favorite program to create my animation frames, I find it to be easier for me to use rather than Photoshop. I tend to turn towards an anime aesthetic since it's heavily influenced my work since I was a kid. When starting new projects, I usually try and see what is currently trending on my social feeds while also adding my own twist to it all.
My aim for my viewers is to see my work in a way that they usually don't see things, in a way that it's reflecting on other people's lives as everything is not just about them. I usually try to have my pieces come from me personally, like portraying my ADHD in a way that some people may not understand or get because they don't have that problem. I gravitate towards subjects like mental health and the hardships that come along with being someone who goes through their ups and downs.
